Indoor or outdoor? A checklist before ordering a signboard

· 1 min read · LED Display Mart

Where a sign will live changes how it should be built. Going through these points before you order saves time and avoids surprises later.

Weather and water

An outdoor sign sees sun, dust and monsoon rain. It needs to be built for that. If the sign is outdoors or in a damp spot, say so, and ask for a weather-resistant, waterproof build. Indoor signs can be lighter and simpler.

Sunlight and brightness

A sign facing direct sun needs to be brighter to stay readable during the day. Signs used mainly in the evening or indoors can be softer. Tell us the time of day it matters most.

Mounting surface

Is the wall brick, concrete, glass or metal sheet? Will the sign hang from a bracket, stand on a pole or sit on a fascia? The surface decides how it is fixed, so a photo of the spot really helps.

Power supply

Note where the nearest power point is. Long cable runs and hidden wiring are easier to plan before the sign is made than after.

Permissions for outdoor boards

In Bengaluru, outdoor advertising signs may need permission from the local civic authority, and your building owner or landlord may have rules too. Check the current requirements before you install, since rules change.

Size and viewing distance

Think about how far away people will be when they need to read it. A sign for a pavement crowd and a sign for a fast road are very different sizes.
